Abstract Objective: To compile an self-management scale for nurses who operate medical sharps. Methods: A provisional version of the scale was formed by reviewing the relevant literature, semi-structured interviews and Delphi expert consultation. A questionnaire was used to investigate 194 standard nurses, and then analyze the dates and examine reliability and validity. Results: The self-management scale for nurses who operate medical sharps deleted three items by analysis. The criteria value of the remaining items was 3.790-18.154. The correlation coefficient of each item score and total scores was 0.425-0.797. Factor analysis showed that the accumulated contribution rate of the five factors was 66.773%, the correlation coefficient of each factor and total factors is 0.494-0.908. The content validity was 0.956; the Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.902; the split-half reliability was 0.756; the test-retest reliability was 0.922. Conclusion: The self-management scale has a good reliability and a good validity. It not only can be used to assess the level of self-management of medical sharps in nurses, but also provide an evaluation tool for related intervention.
