Abstract Objective: To investigate the relationship between basal ganglia calcification and serum homocysteine, uric acid and serum total calcium in cerebral infarction patients. Methods: Nigty-nine patients with cerebral infarction were divided into basal ganglia calcification group and without-basal ganglia calcification group, levels of serum homocysteine and uric acid between 2 groups were compared, and numerical values of serum total calcium and alkaline phosphatase between 2 groups were compared. Results: Serum homocysteine level and uric acid level in basal ganglia calcification group were higher than that in without-basal ganglia calcification group in patients with cerebral infarction, 2 groups were statistically significant difference (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between 2 groups of total serum calcium values (P>0.05), but the level of alkaline phosphatase was lower in basal ganglia calcification group than that in without-basal ganglia calcification group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion: Blood homocysteine, uric acid are two risk factors for disease associated with basal ganglia calcification, alkalin phosphatase is involved in the formation of basal ganglia calcification.
