Abstract Objective: To analyze the current situation of patents of medical universities and to investigate its intellectual property information services. Methods: Quality analysis was made of the patent application trend, authorization rate, conversion rate and patent life of 17 medical universities based on the PatSnap patent database, and the current situation of intellectual property information services carried out in recent years were also investigated. Results: Although different medical universities varied greatly in the awareness of intellectual property protection, the patent authorization rate of 12 medical universities was higher than the national average level. Since the patent information service in medical universities has just started, the patentees generally had weak awareness of patent transformation and maintenance due to the uneven development , low threshold of patent application, and incomplete service system. Compared with other medical universities, Capital Medical University and Nanjing Medical University had better patent performance resulting from earlier patent information services. Conclusion: To improve the quality and efficiency of intellectual property information services, medical universities should attach greater importance to the construction of intellectual property information service center, the extension of patent novelty search into each step of patent review, and further cooperation with patent agencies.
