Abstract Objective: To explore the relationship between the language ability level and parental alexithymia in 2-3 years old children with language retardation. Methods: A total of 59 children with language delay aged 2-3 years who were admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from January to June 2021 and their parents were selected as the subjects. The children’s development was evaluated by S-S test and Gesell Infant development scale.Parents were surveyed using the General information Questionnaire and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. Results: Pearson correlation analysis found that parents’ alexithymia scores were significantly negatively correlated with scores of children's language developmental delay (motor subjects, symbol comprehension, language expression) (P<0.05). The results of regression analysis showed that the higher the parents’ alexithymia, the poorer ability of the children’s language developmental delay (symbol comprehension
ability, motor task ability). Conclusion: The more severe alexithymia of parents, the higher degree of children’s language delay.
