Abstract Objective: To explore the control effect of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) on the biofilm in the waterway system of the dental unit. Methods: Select 30 dental comprehensive treatment chairs in Hospital of Stomatology Wenzhou Medical University from July 2019 to December 2019, and apply 5 mg/L chlorine dioxide disinfectant to the dental unit waterline (DUWL) disinfection, and compare disinfection DUWL average colony count, bacterial biofilm coverage and distribution changes on the pipe wall in each time period after disinfection. Results: The average colony count of DUWL in each time period after disinfection with low concentration of ClO2 was significantly lower than before disinfection, showing statistical difference (P<0.05); after disinfection, the bacterial biofilm coverage area on the distal, middle and proximal pipe walls was decreased, and the damaged fence-like structure and dot-like distribution could be seen. Conclusion: ClO2 chlorine dioxide can effectively remove the biofilm in the waterway system of the dental comprehensive treatment chair, thus producing an excellent bactericidal effect by inhibition of flora growth.
