Abstract Objective: To analyze the relationship between social support, family resilience and
psychological resilience in maintenance hemodialysis patients and to explore the mediating effect value of family
resilience in social support and psychological resilience. Methods: A total of 228 maintenance hemodialysis
patients were selected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University and Wenzhou People’s Hospital from September to December 2020. Maintenance hemodialysis patients were investigated with the Chinese version of the Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS), Chinese Family Resilience Assessment Scale (C-FRAS), and Chinese version of the Conner and Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC). The mediating effect analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling. Results: Social support and its dimension were positively correlated with family resilience (r=0.180-0.519, P<0.01) and psychological resilience (r=0.147-0.557, P<0.01) in maintenance hemodialysis patients; family resilience and its dimension were also positively correlated with psychological resilience (r=0.344-0.570, P<0.01). Family resilience played a partially mediating role between social support and psychological resilience in maintenance hemodialysis patients, with the mediating effect accounting for 32.9% of the total effect value. Conclusion: Social support in maintenance hemodialysis patients not only affects individual psychological resilience, but also indirectly exerts its effect through family resilience. In clinical practice the important role of social support and the effect of family resilience on psychological resilience should be fully considered. Social support interventions and family resilience interventions should be integrated to improve their psychological resilience.
