Abstract Objective: To explore the correlation between T2 value of the knee joint cartilage and the degree of articular cartilage damage through a comparative study of patients with gouty arthritis and healthy volunteers. Methods: A total of 47 patients who were clinically diagnosed with gouty knee arthritis (56 cases) were selected as the case group, and 15 healthy volunteers (30 cases) without knee disease were assigned to the control group.According to the ICRs grading standard, two radiologists evaluated the performance of gout and the grading of articular cartilage injury on the conventional sequence of the knee joint. The ICRs I-II grade was classified as
mild and the ICRs III-IV grade as severe cartilage injury. The cartilage T2 values of patella (patella), femoral trochlear (FT), medial femoral condyle (MFC), lateral femoral condyle (LFC), medial tibial plateau (MTP) and lateral tibial plateau (LTP) were measured respectively. The difference in T2 values between gouty knee arthritis patients and normal control group was compared, and the consistency between the two groups was verified. Results: The average value of cartilage T2 measured in all parts of the knee joint was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05); the consistency between groups and within groups was good. Conclusion:The T2 value of articular cartilage in patients with gouty knee arthritis was significantly higher than that in the control group.
