Abstract：Objective: To investigate the current situation of the nursing work environment in general hospitals in Zhejiang province and improve the effectiveness and satisfaction of nursing management. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. The investigation was carried out based on nursing work environmental scale. 760 questionnaires were distributed, and 740 valid questionnaires were recovered. The data was analyzed based on SPSS software. Results: The nine components of NEW (autonomy, work load, professional development, coworker cohesion, leadership and management, system maintenance and system change, physical environment and logistic support, rights and protections and recognition) were verified. “Work load”, “recognition” and “fights and protections” got the lowest scores in the 9 dimensions while “System maintenance”, “autonomy” and “leadership and management” got the highest. There were significant differences of some dimension scores of work environment among different marital status, work position and work departments. Conclusion: Managers should develop targeted management based on different factors, improve work environment, improve job satisfaction of nurses.
