Abstract:In recent years, the prevalence of obesity has increased year by year, which has become a serious global public health problem. Previous studies have shown that the phenomenon of pancreatic fat deposition is more common in patients with obesity. Current studies found an association between pancreatic fat deposition and obesity-related diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, metabolic syndrome, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. However, its related mechanism has not been fully clarified. Therefore, further research is needed to identify the clinical consequences, risk factors and pathogenesis of this pathological condition, and to discover effective interventions. This review summarizes the diagnostic methods, related mechanisms, risk factors, and clinical consequences of fatty pancreas. In addition, potential therapeutic approaches to address pancreatic fat deposition are discussed.
