The influence of common inner group identity at different social distances on aggressive behavior in doctor-patient disputes

Abstract：Objective: To examine the influence of aggression caused by the threat of the common group identification at different social distances. Methods: Taking doctor-patient disputes event as experimental materials,the index of aggression was obtained by competitive response paradigm and implicit association paradigm, and independent sample t-test was used to analyze the differences of aggression at different social distances. Results:The common group identity with different social distances regulated the implicit aggression caused by the doctorpatient intergroup threat: when the social distance was far, the implicit aggression was significantly enhanced [t(58)=2.59, P=0.012]. Conclusion: Establishing a common inner group identity between doctors and patients helps to improve the doctor-patient relationship. Common internal group identity with close social distance will significantly weaken the aggression caused by inter-group threat.
