History, focus and future trend of research on internationalization strategy of higher education in China

Abstract：Strategy plays an important role in the internationalization of higher education (IoHE). Using the Citespace visualization knowledge graph as the statistical analysis tool, and taking 304 papers from CSSCI Journals and Core Journals in CNKI database as samples, this paper discussed the history evolution, current focuses and future trend of IoHE in China. Research results showed that the history revolution of IoHE in China could be divided into four phases, while the contemporary focuses in this field could be mainly categorized into four types, namely, theoretical research on IoHE, learning the internationalization experience from counterparts overseas, experience sharing with domestic universities and colleges and studying IoHE strategy under a certain topic. This paper believes that we should improve the strategic research on IoHE from five aspects, that is, making in-depth theoretical research, keeping up with policy changes, joining university strategic alliances, conducting institutional research and defining value orientation.
