Abstract:Objective: To explore the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian Brenner tumor. Methods: The clinical data of 29 patients diagnosed as ovarian Brenner tumors were collected to retrospective analysis. The patients were treated in Gynecology department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from January 2001 to December 2013, and the follow-up visit data was surveyed. The results we collected about the characteristics of diagnosis and treatment of ovarian Brenner tumor were summarized and analyzed. Results: In our 29 cases, most of patients were asymptomatic in the preoperative period. Nineteen cases showed an incidentally asymptomatic adnexal mass in the annual gynecological ultrasound exam. It was confirmed that, 2 cases and 1 case of patients were benign, borderline malignant tumor respectively by surgery in 26 cases. The tumor was unilateral in 20 cases and bilateral in 9 cases. Fourteen cases were pure Brenner tumors and 15 cases were mixed tumors consisting of a Brenner tumor element and other ovarian tumor or uterine neoplasms. In these cases, 5 cases performed an operation of tumor resection, 10 cases of unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, 8 cases of bilateral adnexactomy, 5 cases of whole uterus double appendix resection, 1 case of radical hysterectomy ,bilateral salphing-oopherectomy and pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy. During follow-up visits for 2 years, one recurrence occurred in tumor resection, 2 cases of patients died of other reasons, and 6 cases with malignant tumor have been alive after chemotherapy postoperatively up to now, excepted the losted one. Conclusion: Our results indicate that most of ovarian Brenner tumor will be benign with its clinical manifestations, relevant examination and treatment have less differences with other ovarian epithelial tumor. Currently, the diagnosis of Brenner tumor is confirmed clinically by postoperative pathology return, and the surgical treatment is effective.
