The effect of optimized diet intervention on secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with maintenance hemodialysis

Abstract:Objective: To observe the effect of optimized dietary intervention on secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in patients with maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Methods: Seventy patients undergoing MHD and SHPT were divided into two groups according to their admission time, with 35 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Alfacalcicol soft capsules, calcium carbonate tablets and other dietary treatments, while an optimized diet intervention was implemented in the intervention group, based on the routine treatment. The experiment lasted for three months. Serum calcium, phosphorus, and whole-parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels were measured before and after intervention in both groups, and the calcium-phosphorus product was calculated. Meanwhile, every result was given a certain score respectively by using the SF-36 scale. The score refers to the score of all items added in the comprehensive questionnaire. Results: The blood calcium levels were increased after intervention in both groups (P<0.05). The levels of phosphorus, iPTH and calcium and phosphorus were lower (P<0.05), and the decline degree of serum phosphorus, iPTH and calcium and phosphorus product were higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P<0.05). The scores, factors and total scores of the two comprehensive measurement items of SF-36 in intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Optimized dietary intervention can significantly improve serum calcium and phosphorus levels in patients with MHD and SHPT, and effectively improve the scores of SF-36.
